Children's Clothing

Children’s clothing must be safe for children of all ages, particularly babies.

One of the main risks is the presence of small parts that can be detached from decorative accessories which can result in being accidentally swallowed.

Another potential problem relates to the risks of strangulation from drawstrings, particularly the ones nearest to the head and neck. The drawstrings, when present, must be very short, reducing the risk of getting entangled with other objects with which the child interacts.

Some of the main tests performed by ICQ are:

  • flammability of clothing textile;
  • flammability resistance on children sleepwear;
  • safety specifications for drawstrings;
  • evaluation of overall safety of garments with attention to small parts, sharp points and sharp edges (for example zippers and chasps);
  • evaluation of neck opening stretch compare with sizes;
  • evaluations of toxicity: lead, formaldehyde and other heavy metals;
  • buttons and snaps attachment resistance, bows and applied decorations test resistance.
